Ballyvaughan Settlement Tanks

Shay Murtagh Ltd. is proud to be the precast concrete partner for the new wastewater treatment facility in Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare. This vital infrastructure project is focused on environmental protection, tourism support, and improved public health. At its core are several precision-engineered precast components that ensure longevity, performance, and sustainability.

The scope of the project includes the delivery of 2 no. Primary Settlement Precast Tanks (4.79m internal diameter x 3.9m), a Picket Fence Thickener (3.51m ID x 3.5m), and a Storm Tank (9.52m ID x 4.5m). Additionally, Shay Murtagh Precast is responsible for the precast construction of key structures such as the Inlet Pump Station, Flow Splitter Chamber, Inlet Works, and Emergency Pump Station, all supported by custom-engineered precast tanks designed for long-term resilience. These components are essential in ensuring that the wastewater treatment process is robust and future-ready.

By eliminating the discharge of raw sewage, the scheme will vastly improve the water quality in Ballyvaughan Bay, offering clear benefits for recreational users including swimmers, surfers, anglers, and boaters. The cleaner waters are also expected to support local biodiversity and contribute to the social and economic development of the area through improved amenity value.

The new facility, designed to serve a population equivalent of 1,050, reflects a multi-million-euro investment in both technology and community well-being. Precast concrete was chosen for its proven durability and speed of installation, helping meet tight construction timelines while maintaining high-quality standards. Our precast tanks play an important role in achieving operational efficiency and environmental compliance on this project
