Shay Murtagh is delighted to be a part of the development for the Thorpe Marsh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) – the largest standalone facility of its kind in the UK and among the largest in Europe. Appointed to this prestigious infrastructure project at the start of the year by H&MV Engineering, our manufacturing teams have been working hard to deliver structural solutions.
Once complete, the site will have the capacity to power 785,000 homes. This massive storage capability helps make the regional electricity network in the UK and Yorkshire far more secure, self-sufficient, and resilient. Moving from its historical footprint as a former coal-fired station to becoming a beacon of green infrastructure, Thorpe Marsh marks a major turning point in the UK’s clean energy journey.
To support the demanding engineering specifications of this project, we supplied a wide range of bespoke precast concrete products. These specialized structural items were manufactured across both our Raharney facility and Evans Concrete production lines. Because the project is still ongoing, maintaining precise manufacturing timelines and robust quality control remains central to our operations.
