The HS2 Interchange Station in Solihull is a key project for UK high-speed rail, and at Shay Murtagh, we were proud to deliver one of its most critical components: 15 colossal pre-cast concrete bridge beams. Each beam, weighing up to 565 tonnes and stretching 46 metres in length, was produced at our cutting-edge facility. These massive beams are vital to constructing a road bridge that will allow traffic to cross the high-speed railway line, a crucial part of the HS2 infrastructure.
Our involvement began with the precision production of these beams, adhering to strict HS2 standards to ensure durability and performance. We take pride in delivering precast concrete solutions that meet the highest specifications for large-scale infrastructure projects. Once the beams were ready, our logistics team meticulously planned their transport across the UK. The sheer size of these beams required specialised vehicles and expert coordination to ensure safe and timely delivery to the Solihull site.
On arrival, the beams were lifted into place using a 650-tonne crane, a process that took an entire week to complete. The scale of the installation showcased the expertise of our team and our ability to manage even the most complex projects. With each beam carefully positioned, they now form the backbone of the road bridge that will serve traffic accessing the HS2 Interchange Station.
