GridLok – The Complete Soil Reinforcement System For Steep Slopes And Near-vertical Walls
Shay Murtagh Precast’s GridLok soil reinforcement system uses steel mesh panels and inextensible steel soil reinforcements to create steep slopes and near-vertical walls
How GridLok works
The GridLok system consists of steel mesh face panels which are interlaced with horizontal tensile bars to create a simple but effective method of soil reinforcement. The system can be used to make slopes at angles of 60 or 70 degrees. The slope can be finished with a vegetative surface, either by hand seeding the topsoil during filling or by hydroseeding over the finished surface.
The 8 Benefits of Shay Murtagh’s Gridlok Soil Reinforcement System
Easy to Install
The GridLok soil reinforcement system is easy to install and does not call for a large workforce or extensive training.
Rapid Construction
Construction time is shorter than for other soil reinforcement methods, aided by the fact that formwork is not a requirement when using the GridLok soil reinforcement system.
A Cost-Effective Soil Reinforcement System
The GridLok system offers good value for money as well as costs that can be predicted at the planning stage.
Self-Supporting and Self-Locking
The speed at which the GridLok soil reinforcement system can be constructed, and its cost effectiveness, are aided by the fact that it does not require propping, either internally or externally, during construction. No temporary face support, or formwork, is needed during installation.
Steel Hairpin Reinforcement Ensures a Predictable Wall Face Position
Unlike polymer geogrids, the inextensible steel soil reinforcements used in the GridLok soil reinforcement system do not creep or stretch after installation. In consequence, there is no movement in the wall face position over time. This predictability offers considerable advantages when the slope is planned to form part of a larger project.
Tolerates Differential Settlement
A certain amount of differential settlement is inevitable in a large earth structure, but the GridLok system has the inherent strength to tolerate this without affecting the stability of the finished project.
Minimal Maintenance After Installation
Once completed, a wall or slope constructed using the GridLok system does not require extensive or skilled maintenance, which contributes to its attractiveness to the end-user.
Vegetative Finish – Soil Stability, Appearance, Environmental Impact
The stable surface offered by this system encourages the establishment of a vegetative finish, which enhances both soil stability and the aesthetic appearance of the structure. The topsoil can be seeded by hand during construction, or alternatively the surface can be hydro seeded (that is, sprayed with a mixture of mulch and seed) once in place.
