N11 Newtown Mount Kennedy

Geosystems designed and manufactured a GridLok system for the Morris-Sisk Consortium for works taking place on the N11 road from Newtown Mount Kennedy to Ballynabarny. The congested two lane trunk road was improved in several places to provide four lanes in compliance with modern motorway standards. For several sections embankments up to 13M high were required and in some locations the toe of these embankments encroached onto the existing N11 road. Retaining structures were installed at these locations to support the toe of the high embankment.

This detailed project was one of the first applications of reinforced steel soil slopes in Ireland. Geosystems engineers and their proposals underwent a rigorous examination by both Morris-Sisk and Arup to ensure that the GridLok system would live up to the requirements of the project. Four steel slopes were designed and supplied to site, with Geosystems engineers present to provide instruction and guidance to the installation team, ensuring fast and efficient assembly.
